lecture techniques

it is important to always have a pen and a note pad in a lecture because quite frankly you only remember ten percent of what you might hear in a lecture. the moment you walk out of the lecture hall half of the things said go out the door with you. by having a note pad you have the chance to not only take notes but to put down things you might not have understood. this gives you a chance to clarify all misunderstandings before the 'big day' EXAMS!! while taking notes it would be a good idea to put down the topic and the important issues that go under that topic. key words and facts should also be noted as a combination of this will not only help with tests but with exams. taking notes reduces the stress level when its time for exams because by taking notes you are storing the information somewhere in your brain which you will find very easy to bring up when learning in the long run

another important thing is to get into the lecture hall at least 5 minutes before the time. if you come in late you lose the main idea and focus of what the lecturer is talking about. if that happens you might as well not come because coming late is equivalent to not coming to a lecture at all.

right now it very much possible to read on moodle the lecture notes before actually going to the lectures. when you understand something before hand the chances of you getting lost in the lecture are very slim. this is a very good way of getting a 100% from the lecture hall in the sense that once you have understood it follows you through out.

going to a lecture is very easy but its what you do when you get there that really matters. pay attention, write notes arrive early, if possible read the notes before hand and the stress level is reduced for you.

Lecture Technique

lecture technique can be seen as one of the ways lecturers pass on knowledge to students and therefore because students priority is to acquire knowledge, it is very essential. in cases where new topics are being introduced in lectures , a little background reading would be good to enable the students to have a slight idea of what is being taught. Lectures are very important to attend as it is the main source of knowledge in the sense that the new topics or topics overall are being introduced. It also prepares  student for seminars or tutorial and even exams.

The idea of using a friends note , power point slides or listen again  isn't bad but it shouldn't be the only source it can be for crosschecking incase of omission or to check if your in place but not the main source cause most of the times, power point slides don't contain everything said in by the lecturer and a friends note cannot be 100% accurate cause he or she may have missed some points and also listen again may not be clear and it may be boring cause there is difference between just listening to it and being there actually. In my opinion note taking is good but there is an old saying that you cant serve two masters at a time so listening and trying to write down what is being taught is difficult. In process of writing you may miss a point and in process of listening without writing you are bound to forget. So i feel background reading would really help cause then not everything would be needed to be taken down since the student would already know it and for the taking of notes i would say it should be well organised and brief if possible bullet points. In a situation where you have no idea of what is being taught then its really stressful writing what you don't understand. but nevertheless this doesn't apply to everything cause note taking is very very important and it can be used to acquire knowledge later when doing personal studies.

Well in my lectures i use linear note taking  mostly but i realised recently that bullet point are kinda better cause when doing studies again i get to fill spaces and scribble little important bits and they help me. My lectures are really what's the word can i say ' packed with lots of information' wow if you actually miss a section or anything and you don't go back to check well there is a possibility you drown until you go back to read then you'll know. I'll say overall my lectures are significant. I wont see summarising or re-writing notes as a waste of time in fact it is very essential and it helps to put in new findings and it kinda makes the student sure like makes them know it by hand cause it helps the student master the work and also revising the work helps too.

Basically its all about background reading before time, taking notes, listening, re-writting and revising the work :)

Lecture Technique
Lecturing is a standard teaching method and should be taken seriously.  Lecture technique vary from people to people. For Lecturers, Lecturing is an act of passing information to a student. It is required to have an  introduction, body and conclusion. It is the Lecturers  job to however help the student to understand the subject.  An effective lecture technique is the use visual aids and practice.
For students, the best way to approach lectures is by reading before classes, attending class, taking notes and revising them. Full  attendances is important. Most of the time, relying on your course mate is not necessarily a good option because they are likely to sometimes miss some valid point. Disadvantages of taking your course mate note is that their handwriting may not be legible and also his or her style of taking notes may be different to your style hereby making it difficult to understand.
Students should not just attend the class but also try to be early because most lecturers say things in the beginning of class which they might not repeat. Most of the lecture notes are given using Microsoft Powerpoint. Depending totally on PowerPoint however has its disadvantages because PowerPoint  just gives a brief point and does not explain in detail. Taking note is also essential. It is good to take note because they are some point that would not be stated in the PowerPoint.  I believe the best way to take notes is using a linear style however other styles work for different people . The chart works for me but it depends on the note taking. If the note taking has to do with questions like, "what is the difference between natural law and positivism?", i use the chart method because I understand better and it is similar.

The act of Re- writing notes works differently for different people. Some people believe it is a waste of time since they already took notes in class or since they can read from the PowerPoint on Moodle. However it is not a waste of time to others, I believe re-writing notes are helpful. Most times when re-writing, you get to remember some points. The notes become simplified if you are  writing it again. Revising notes are good . However, in the lectures I have attend so far the lecturers have taken time out to highlight and explain each point given . I believe if you don’t attend the lecturers regularly you never really get what the topic is about even if you read on your own. Although many lecture  materials can be found online, they will not explain in detail. They just give brief overviews. The lecturers also give useful information in lecturers rather than classes, most time the classes are about your opinion on the a subject area.

Lecture technique.

Lecture technique can be the different ways in which students approach lectures.

Lectures are the most important aspect of learning in the sense that vital points are made by the lecturers and then passed on to the students. These key points made most times come out in the examination. So it is very important to attend lectures.

The first approach towards lectures is by preparing before hand. Students should make good and proper research so as to have a clearer and better understanding of the topic.

The use of notes from friends is bad because most times you do not understand their style of writing or may be the student did not write major points down in his notes. The use of listen again is also not good because technology can fail someone. It is possible that it will not be working when someone needs it. The use of power points can be good when you want to make a proper note but then it should be combined with the points you made from the lecturer.

I feel it is best to take notes because most points said in most cases can never be repeated. So it is best to listen attentively too. The use of bullet points while taking note is faster but little piece of information or explanation should be written beside it so that it will not be difficult for someone to read.

I will say that the quality of lectures given is of a good university standard. More explanations, examples, scenarios are made in order to make the student have a full understanding of the topic or the moodle in general.

Summarizing and re-writing notes is not a waste of time in the sense that the note becomes clearer and easier to understand because all details are given and then summarizing the note makes the reader have the knowledge of the subject topic.

It is good to revise your notes so that it will remain fresh and it will help you remember some piece of information that will be needed in the examination.

To come to a conclusion, it is good to attend lectures and take good notes with quality information contained in it.

lecture techniques

Lecture are the most  essential part of leaning  in lectures you get the must basic, important and vital information   the lecturer is trying to pass across,  important information if often gotten from lectures.
Attendance in class is one of the vital things in leaning because must times the must important part of the lecture is passed orally and when you don't attend classes you miss it . although people just borrow or ask a friend to explain but the explanation from a friend will not be as clear as the lecturer because the lecturer has a better knowledge about the subject or topic.
power-points are also available, power-points serves as a very good help in parts of your lecture because the lecturer has made it easier fro you by highlighting the important and essential parts point of the topic. i use this when reading and it helps allot , listen again is not  that great cause because they  might be a problem with the recording or the internet so i don't bank on it.
Note taking is also important because when studying you reading the point you have made which are the important parts of the lecture and you can have a better understanding and it helps to take note because most of the time you don't  remember what the lecturer has said, so taking notes helps and it is very important. when taking notes your style is very important  and matter as-well because when you write in a chunk of words this is a wrong way to take notes , you tend to mix it up and this confuses you. Bullet point are the best they are well spaced out and organised, so far i have enjoyed most of my lectures they provide you with powerpoint and visual aids and also a good lecture to back it up. Although one must re-write and summarise the note and points because it gives you a better knowledge about it when u rewrite you understand more than the first time you wrote it and also when revising you can make flash cards which is a card which contains small amount of information which you have rewritten from your note as an aid for learning and re-reading helps swell
